BLOODLINES AND BREEDING

Sire WOLFGANG - Bay Dutch Warmblood, 16.2hh, born 1980

Wolfgang by Farn is a proven sire of graded stallions (eg Estaban and Fuego), top broodmares, successful competition horses and highly prized auction foals.

Wolfgang was graded in 1982 and the report of his performance test the same year described him as very striking, earning him 9's for his work under saddle. He also competed successfully in the special classes for young stallions in 1983 and 1984.

The critique for his progeny describe them as being of very good type with much quality, presence, good conformation, good fronts and elastic movement. His BLUP index for showjumping is 125, and for dressage it is 90 making him respectively the 4th and the 11th ranked sire in his year group of 13 for passing on these competition abilities.

His rankings have been confirmed by the fact that he has already produced a supreme champion at the KWPN broodmare grading plus top priced foals at the 1990 and 1991 sales (eg Donald who was sold for 84,000 guilders, approx £45,000) as well as several stallion grading candidates.

Sire's Sire: FARN - Bay Holstein, born 1959

Farn by Fax I was a sire of such top showjumpers as Odin N, Optiebuers Pasquino, Optibuers Investment and of course the top Olympic horse and prepotent sire Nimmerdor (sire himself of Olympic Ahorn).

Although he was a rather old-fashioned type of Holstein he was used with great success on 3/4 TB mares earning him 5th place overall in the all-time KWPN breeding index (146 for showjumping and 81 for dressage).

Sire's Dam: JOLANDA - Dutch Warmblood keur pref prest

Wolfgang's dam Jolanda by the English Thoroughbred Eratosthenes XX was a very highly graded and attractive mare who was both successful under saddle and as a producer of top class progeny, including not only Wolfgang but also his full sister Zwantje who jumped successfully at Grade A Level. Erastosthenes XX (born 1957) by Guersant was also himself a sire of top class competition horses such as Iwan F, Hala HB, Cyrano, Horatio, Gamin B, Oscar and Socrates.

Dam: ZIDORA - Dutch Warmblood ster mare

Zidora by Makelaar was the daughter of a stallion noted for his good broodmares and as a ster mare was herself a proven producer of good candidates for stallion and mare grading.

Zidora's dam Paola by Marco Polo was also a ster mare and also provides another top competition bloodline is Fuego's pedigree.

Dam's Sire: MAKELAAR - Holstein

Makelaar by the Thoroughbred Sable Skinflint XX was a modern type of Holstein with BLUP index of 94 for showjumping and 62 for dressage. Makelaar was a successful sire of broodmares.

Dam's Dam's Sire: MARCO POLO- Chestnut Trakehner, 16.1hh born 1962

Marco Polo by the Thoroughbred Poet XX stood at stud for 20 years in The Netherlands following his grading in Neumunster (for the Trakehner Verband) and in Holland. He was the most important sire in Dutch competition horse breeding. He looked rather more like a Thoroughbred than a Trakehner and his progeny, who were often quite late developers (usual in Trakehners) were outstanding jumpers and very forward going.

He was also noted a prepotent sire of stallions, having graded sons at stud in many countries.

His most well-known off spring include Irco Polo (sire of the top Swedish showjumping stallion Irco Marco who in turn sired the Olympic horse Marcoville).
Marius - sire of Milton, the top English Showjumper for John Whittaker.
Vivaldi - International speed horse.
Interpol - Fred Welch's international showjumping stallion.
